The links below give a good overview of topics like heat pumps, insulation, blower door tests, etc.

Energy Audit Blower Door Test

Blower Door Test

This test depressurizes your house by temporarily blowing out some of your home’s air.  This negative pressure means outdoor air will find it’s way inside through gaps, holes & poorly insulated windows, basements, etc.  A technician will identify these areas while the test is running.

Air Sealing and insulating attics

Attic insulation is a key component of energy efficiency.  Your home loses a lot of heat through the attic, proper and thorough insulation can make a big difference to your comfort and heating bills.

House as a system - overview

Your house is designed to work as a system.  A multi component system designed to work smoothly integrating heating, cooking, ventilation, insulation, etc.

Spray foam vs fiberglass attic insulation

Traditional insulation is mostly fiberglass.  While it is cheaper and easier to work with, foam spray insulation is often a better choice with superior R values and the ability to penetrate and seal better especially around pipes, vents and irregular difficult to access areas

Heat pumps 101

Today’s heat pumps may be an excellent way to heat and cool your home without consuming fossil fuels.  Heat pumps don’t create heat – they efficiently move it from your home to outside (AC season) or extract heat from the atmosphere and transfer it into your home. (heating season) Even at -25c there is still heat in the atmosphere that can be used to heat your home.   Max rebates on heat pumps are $6500 for Enbridge Gas customers and $5000 for non Enbridge Gas customers
